The SPH Devotional book project was initiated by Dr. Joan Sabate, the Executive Director of the SPH Center for Nutrition, Healthy Lifestyle and Disease Prevention. The book project team includes:

Principal Investigator

Dr. Joan Sabate has a doctoral degree in public health nutrition, and has worked in the area of Environmental Nutrition for over 10 years. He has a broad, multidisciplinary background including nutrition, epidemiology, and statistics. He was Chair of the nutrition department at Loma Linda University for 17 years and led many research projects to completion. Currently, Joan is the co-Director of the Environmental Nutrition research program at Loma Linda University.

Pat joined the School of Public Health in 1979 with an MPH from its first off-campus program and an MS from the University of Washington. Upon receipt of her DrPH from UCLA, she became increasingly involved in administrative responsibilities, including chair of the Nutrition Department, Associate Dean and Dean. Her research and teaching interests focused on bone health of vegetarians and maternal and infant nutrition. Her interest in vegetarian nutrition was expressed in the leadership of the first three International Congresses on Vegetarian Nutrition and editing of their proceedings.
