Dear Alumni, Faculty, and Staff,
It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Dr. Edwin H. Krick, who served as the Dean of our School of Public Health from 1986 to 1990. As a rheumatologist, beloved teacher, and compassionate leader, he left an indelible mark on our community and the lives of countless patients, students, and colleagues.
Dr. Krick's dedication to the field of public health and his unwavering devotion to the Loma Linda University mission was truly inspirational. He viewed his work as an extension of his lifelong commitment to service, and he approached every challenge with strength and deep compassion. We are forever grateful for his contributions and the lasting impact he has had on our institution.
As we approach the end of another eventful year, I find myself filled with a deep sense of gratitude and anticipation for the bright future that lies ahead. I am thrilled to announce that we will be commemorating the 60th anniversary of our school during our Homecoming festivities in February through March. This will be a truly special occasion as we come together to reflect on our legacy of excellence and look towards an even brighter future.
In addition to Homecoming, we have many other exciting events planned for the coming months. Our annual Open House in January is the perfect opportunity for prospective students to learn about our renowned academic programs and engage with our world-class faculty. We will also be hosting a special Careers in Public Health event in April, providing our students and alumni with invaluable insights and networking opportunities.
We look forward to honoring our graduates during our Commencement ceremony in June as we celebrate their remarkable achievements and send them forth to make their mark on the world. These are just a few of the highlights on our calendar. I encourage you all to stay connected with us through our alumni website and social media channels, where we will share more details about these events and many others.
As always, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support and dedication of our alumni community. Your continued involvement and investment in our school are essential to our success and to the advancement of public health worldwide.
As we reflect on this remarkable milestone, we are reminded of the vital role that public health plays in shaping the well-being of our society, from prevention to health education in the community. In these challenging times, when global health crises and emerging threats continue to test our communities' resilience, our work as public health professionals has never been more crucial. Now, more than ever, we must keep public health at the forefront of our collective efforts and continue advocating for policies and practices that prioritize the health and safety of all. In addition, we are dedicated to being a source of information for cutting-edge research on health and well-being.
I eagerly await the opportunity to welcome you back to campus for our Homecoming celebration, where we will come together to reminisce, reconnect, and rededicate ourselves to the vital work that lies ahead. It is in these moments of unity and shared purpose that we find the strength and inspiration to overcome any challenge that may come our way.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Adam L. Aréchiga, PsyD, DrPH
