An alumna of Loma Linda University, Celeste Philip, MD, MPH, is now surgeon general for the state of Florida and its 20 million residents. Following her appointment in March as interim surgeon general, Gov. Rick Scott made her position permanent May 18.  READ MORE

Los Angeles Megaclinic April 27-29

Eleven students and several faculty from the School of Public Health joined over 4,000 volunteers for the three-day Pathway to Health clinic in Los Angeles on April 27-29, 2016. The lines for the clinic would start the night before, as people would bring their sleeping bags and blankets prepared to spend the night. By the time of opening at 7 a.m. each morning, thousands of patients would line up along the walls of the LA convention center waiting to receive care.

LLUSPH Puts on San Manuel Health Fair

By Krystal Gheen We have been working with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for quite some time in a number of ways.  Through these discussions, they have recently invited Loma Linda University Health to help them educate their members on ways they can live healthier and happier lives.  This is a first.

USAID Fellows Program Visits

USAID’s Global Health Fellows program made a stop in Loma Linda in May to present students with various internship opportunities. Kate Jones, assistant professor at LLUSPH has played a supportive role in bringing USAID to campus, and ensuring a large audience. This year, global health students were joined by several preventive medicine residents from the LLU School of Medicine, along with the dean of the School of Behavioral Health, and the director of LLUSPH’s MBA program. This visit was reported on the USAID fellow website.

Saying Goodbye to Fran Crawford

We send our thoughts and prayers to Dr. James Crawford and his family. His wife Fran passed away Tuesday evening, February 2, 2016. Dr. Crawford was Dean of SPH during two different time periods in the 1970s and ‘80s, and was also an Associate Dean in the School of Dentistry. Services were held for Fran on Sunday, February 7 at the Chico SDA Church in Northern California.
