What is a Healthy Lifestyle?

Loma Linda has been the center of healthy lifestyle approaches for many years. The Loma Linda University has conducted several studies comparing habits of health such as diet and exercise with health outcomes. The latest study, The Adventist Health Study II, is one of the largest longitudinal studies of its kind and has been funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and currently has 97,000 participants. The study has shed some light on the ideal lifestyle that includes a plant-based diet and moderate exercise.

According to a November 2005 National Geographic report, Loma Linda is one of the few places in the world (Blue Zones) where centenarians live productive and healthy lives. The lifestyle of the centenarians is based on the Adventist tradition of health summarized on the eight remedies: nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperance, air pure, rest and trust in the Lord.

The lifestyle of the centenarians is the one that is taught and promoted at the Drayson Center Office of Preventive Care. This is the lifestyle to prevent modern diseases that are becoming an epidemic in the country and the world.
